Singer Becky Hill was surprised after dropping and smashing her BRIT award.
The 28-year-old Wish You Well singer realized that part of her trophy, which she received after winning the British Dance Act earlier this month, had been repurposed and was apparently at the originally intended for Fred Again, who won 2020 Producer of the Year.
The former contestant of The Voice revealed she broke her award at the ceremony on February 8, when she appeared on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch morning show.
She explained: “I’ve been a huge fan of Self Esteem and I met her at the BRITs and had the award in my hand.
“I had had a few drinks at the time and I kind of threw her on the floor and threw my arms around her, and the stocking came off the price before I even had left the O2.”
The star then revealed that the gong had been recycled by BRIT organizers.
“We rushed to find the bottom and I realized on the back was Brit Awards 2020 Producer of the Year Fred Again, on one side it’s Becky Hill Dance not Best Dance Act, just Dance , but Fred Again on the other side.”
Becky then took the opportunity to pitch a collaboration with the producer, saying: “So, Fred if you’re watching, I’ve wanted to work with you for a long time and this is my business card, I have the bottom of your Price British.”
She then revealed that she hadn’t set the price yet, saying, “I need to find some super glue to put this back on.”
The singer, who worked with international producer David Guetta, said she cried throughout the awards speech.
Asked by Sunday Brunch co-host Simon Rimmer if she had expected the win, Becky said: “That’s all TikTok voted, it scared me a bit because I bit of a social media phobia, which is really hard when you’re trying to be a pop star.
“But I really pushed it on social media to the point where I felt really uncomfortable, basically like please vote for me.”
In January, Becky and her longtime boyfriend Charlie got engaged while on an exotic vacation in the Maldives.
