TThe cost of vacations has plummeted as new travel test rules come into effect.
Following an announcement by Boris Johnson on Wednesday, travelers are now spared the costly process of having a lateral flow test before they return to the UK (costing around £ 20 per person) and a PCR test on the second day of arrival (costing around £ 80 per person) – for a family of four this reduces the price of the holiday by £ 500.
Under the new rules, which go into effect at 4 a.m. on Friday, fully vaccinated holidaymakers will now only face a second-day lateral flow test.
Tour operators are expecting an increase in bookings, for ski vacations and winter sunshine. Ailsa Pollard, CEO of DNATA Travel Group, which owns companies like Travel Republic and Travelbag, described the news as “the positive start to 2022 that the travel industry needs.”
“There have been many false dawns since the start of this pandemic, but it is a smart and timely move. There are some fantastic deals available, with many new measures in place to ensure customers can book with confidence. “
To give travelers a further boost, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “We want to provide more certainty for passengers and businesses, and we will conduct a full review of our international travel measures for 2022 by now. the end of the month.”
Testing was not completely abandoned, however. Unvaccinated travelers must continue to follow the old rules, including self-isolation for 10 days, and many destinations require travelers to take tests before they arrive.
