The Maldivian Tourism Industry Association (MATI) held its 32nd Annual General Meeting.
MATI’s 32nd AGM was held in Kurumba Maldives on Thursday. A total of 96 members attended this year’s AGM.
This year’s AGM of MATI brought together the Minister of Tourism, Dr Abdulla Mausoom, the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna and the Managing Director and Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation Thoyyib Mohamed.
The Minister and the Managing Director of the MMPRC delivered remarks and participated in a Q&A session for members.
The event was also attended by Mr. Ismail Hameed, President, National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM), Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, Vice President, National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM), Mr. Abdulla Suood, Board Member Board of Directors, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Mr. Raaif Shaaz Waleed, Board Member, National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of Maldives (NHGAM) and Mr. Mohamed Yameen, Board Member administration, National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of Maldives (NHGAM).
The President of MATI, Mr. Mohamed Umar Maniku opened the AGM by delivering the official opening speech, followed by a statement by the Secretary General of MATI, Mr. Ahmed Nazeer. Mr. Ahmed Nazeer oversaw the formal proceedings of the AGM. Debates included the adoption of the minutes of the 31st AGM and the adoption of the minutes, a video presentation highlighting the work carried out by MATI for the year 2021, the presentation of the annual report and financial reports for 2021, the adoption of the budget for 2022 and the Appointment of the auditors for 2022. In addition, the members of the board of directors for the year 2022-2023 were elected.
With Mr. Mohamed Umar Maniku as President, with Mr. Hussain Afeef and Mr. Salah Shihab as Vice Presidents, Mr. Ahmed Nazeer as Secretary General, Mr. Ahmed Hafeez as Financial Controller and Mr. Asad Ali as Deputy Secretary General, the board includes 11 members of the management board.
In light of this year being the Golden Jubilee of Tourism, MATI also presented a video detailing the celebratory activities organized by MATI for the year. They included the Chevening/Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) scholarship partnership, the publication of 2 coffee table books titled – “Maldivian Resort Architecture – 50 Years of Island Resorts” written by Mr. Mauroof Jameel and “50 Years of Maldives tourism – the pioneers, people and policies that shaped the industry” written by Dr. Simad Saeed is set to be released at MATI’s 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner on August 12, 2022 and a partnership with Parley Maldives to fight plastic pollution and promote environmental conservation.
