Rebecca Lim has been nominated for her tenth Top 10 Most Popular Female Artist award at the upcoming Star Awards 2022 on April 24.

It’s a slew of good news for the 35-year-old actress, who also announced her engagement to Matthew Webster, 35, last November.

Propelled into the limelight

However, we probably won’t see Webster on the TV broadcast of the awards show this year.

Talk to MothershipLim said she doesn’t think anyone other than the artists themselves will be in attendance due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Plus, she doubts Webster would be comfortable “in a setting like that.”

Still, her significant other was very supportive, she said, noting that he had just voted for her the day before our interview, to which she voiced her approval, “Good.”

Although he was suddenly thrust into the limelight due to his recent engagement to a local celebrity, Lim’s beau “was actually really cool” about it.

In fact, Lim revealed that he was cooler than her when they first announced the engagement, which she found “very nerve-wracking.”

She explained that she felt more overwhelmed than him because there were so many good wishes from everyone, which really touched her.

Despite her initial concern for Webster over the sudden media exposure, she observed that “he did very well”.

Wedding and honeymoon plans

Lim shared that she hopes to have the wedding this year, which she described as a “very ideal” outcome.

However, the prevailing Covid-19 restrictions make it difficult to accommodate Lim’s large family and very close family friends who total just over 100.

The couple are still moving forward one step at a time when it comes to wedding plans, Lim said, adding that they are still deciding whether they would like to have a small wedding with just the family or wait for restrictions to settle. soften more.

The bride-to-be has admitted she’s leaning towards a bigger wedding, which isn’t ‘feasible’ as current restrictions only allow her to invite around 20 friends and colleagues, which potentially means excluding some many of them.

“It’s a big day and I want a lot of people who have been a big part of my life to be a part of this day as well,” Lim explained.

No destination wedding

A destination wedding is not planned for Lim.

“My grandmother will not be able to travel,” she said, adding that it is even less possible for her to travel now that Lim is 35, soon to be 36.

That’s mainly why she didn’t think about a destination wedding, Lim said, “because she [her grandmother] at be there.”

However, that doesn’t mean Lim is immune to the wanderlust that has been exacerbated by Covid-19.

She revealed that the couple are “looking forward to a great honeymoon” but ideas change every time they discuss it.

“Some days we long for a beach honeymoon. Some days we want something quiet, something with nature. It’s always changing, but everything seems like a dream right now. “

The specific countries that have come up in their discussions are the Maldives, Switzerland, Europe and possibly even the United States, which she has not visited.

Final top 10?

Lim is among 20 nominees vying for the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artist awards for the 2022 Star Awards.

She has won the award consecutively for the past nine times since she was first nominated in 2012 at the most recent Star Awards 2021.

For context, artists who have received the Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artist award ten times will no longer be eligible, as it culminates in an all-time favorite artist award.

This means that if Lim takes the win again this year, she will “fall out” of the Top 10 – a milestone for which she has a lot of “mixed feelings”, including excitement, nervousness and extreme happiness.

As the actress drove to dinner after the virtual press conference on March 9, she realized that it had been 10 years and how many things had happened in her career as well as in her personal life.

She acknowledged that a popularity award like the Top 10 requires “huge support from everyone” and expressed her gratitude for it.

“Even before I was nominated for the Top 20, there were already people who believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself… I’m extremely grateful to be where I am, I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be where I am today.”

According to Mediacorp, 70% of the final results for the top 10 male/female artists will be determined by a public vote which is open until 8 p.m. on April 24, 2022, while the results of a popularity survey contribute the remaining 30%.

The 2022 Star Awards may not be her first rodeo, but the seasoned actress still gets the jitters going every year.

“I’ve been through nine years, I’m still not cool [about it]. I’m still nervous, excited and scared at the same time.”

Two packets of instant mee with an egg

Besides her family, team and managers, Lim hopes to celebrate her latest Top 10 victory with her “two very close girlfriends” whom she has known since she was seven years old.

Both were present at Lim’s first-ever Star Awards in 2012 to see her win the first Top 10.

Additionally, Lim shared his tradition of having dinner after returning from the Star Awards every year.

“Two packets of instant mee,” she laughed, “With an egg…sometimes with champagne.”

Lim clarified that while artists have access to food and drink at the awards show, they are sometimes busy with backstage interviews and questions.

“And some years your dress is so tight! You’re really hungry at the end of the show and you’re always in a relaxed mood.”
