Online travel company EaseMyTrip has seen a 40-50% increase in advance airline bookings for the upcoming summer season and the Good Friday long weekend. The platform also saw a 20-30% increase in advance bookings for international travel for the months of May and June, with a significant increase in the number of people traveling for longer holidays.
People also decided to leave their hometowns for the Good Friday long weekend with an increase of about 60% in hotel reservations compared to the corresponding period last year. EMT said the average hotel stay this year also increased from 3 to 5 days.
In terms of domestic travel destinations that have sparked interest, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Rajasthan and Goa top the list. For leisure travellers, international destinations like Dubai, the Maldives, Thailand and the United States are the most in demand, the EMT survey found.
What were the other big booking trends?
India’s northeastern region may see a bigger influx of tourists this year. Data from EMT indicates that there has been a significant increase in bookings and inquiries for travel destinations in the North Eastern part of India. States such as Manipur, Tripura and Assam are the most popular destinations for travellers, he added.
While revenge travel has been one of the main factors behind the surge in bookings since last year, long weekends are becoming the new industry trend. There is also a substantial increase in leisure travel, with a significant number of travelers opting for group and family trips over solo vacations, according to the survey.
The company said it has seen a 50% increase in the number of travelers opting for last-minute bookings.
