The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) hosted a webinar to familiarize the Nordic market with local tourism products and experiences.

The webinar entitled “Maldives – Local Islands, Local Experiences” targeted the travel industry from Sweden, Denmark and Norway. It was held on March 29.

MMPRC says the webinar was part of a series of three sessions conducted for this market as part of their strategy to promote the Maldives as a safe haven for travelers from the Nordic region. As such, the latest webinar provided the Nordic market with insights into the local Maldives tourism segment, particularly guest house experiences, available from the Maldives.

Speaking at the opening of the webinar, MMPRC Managing Director, Thoyyib Mohamed, highlighted the Maldives’ achievements in fighting the pandemic and how the Maldives has become a tourism success story in the process.

Secret Paradise, Angsana Velavaru and Qatar Airways participated in the webinar to provide attendees with more experiences of Maldives tourism.

Attendees of this webinar received information on the recent easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the Maldives, as well as destination presentations. As such, presentations by member properties and one presentation by an airline partner were shared with attendees. This was followed by a question and answer session.

In addition, a raffle was drawn among the participants among which a lucky winner received a free stay in the Maldives sponsored by Angsana Velavaru. The winner received a five-day all-inclusive stay at a beachfront villa in Angsana Velavaru.

Stating that the series aims to inspire attendees to broaden and expand their Maldivian product portfolio, MMPRC said the purpose of this series is to inform and educate the Nordic travel industry on the latest information and guidelines from Maldives travel.

MMPRC reports that more than 100 market leading travel business partners have been reached per session of this webinar series.

The previous two sessions in the series took place in 2021, including an introductory webinar titled “Welcome to the Maldives” and webinar “Maldives – a safe haven with unique experiences”.

The Nordic market has seen an increase in arrivals in recent years. In 2021, the Maldives welcomed more than 1.3 million visitors, including 18,507 from countries belonging to the Nordic market. This year, the Maldives recorded 9,754 arrivals from the Nordic market in the first two months of the year.
